The Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan has stopped a number of corruption-related incidents in the system of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Committee.
According to reports, in the city of Gulistan, Syrdarya region, an assistant doctor M.A. of the sanitary and epidemiological welfare and public health department was caught red-handed while receiving 300 US dollars and 1.2 million soums, having promised to provide a positive conclusion for finished food products manufactured by "M.M." LLC.
In the Toyloq district of Samarkand region, a sanitary doctor F.B. of the sanitary and epidemiological welfare and public health department demanded 9 million soums in exchange for processing a sanitary-hygienic conclusion for a bakery of an individual entrepreneur. During an operative measure, he was caught while receiving 400 US dollars of the agreed amount. During the investigation, it was established that he had previously extorted 100 US dollars and 500 thousand soums through fraud.
In the Khorezm region, an employee of the Urganch city sanitary and epidemiological welfare and public health department, G.A., was detained while receiving 2.4 million soums, having promised a citizen to process a permit to open a public catering outlet and to refrain from imposing fines for six months.
In the city of Namangan, an assistant doctor A.S. of the sanitary and epidemiological welfare and public health department was caught red-handed while receiving 1.2 million soums in exchange for processing a positive conclusion for opening a non-state preschool educational institution in the name of a citizen. It is noted that this person had a previous criminal record.
Criminal cases have been initiated regarding these incidents under Articles 25, 168 (fraud) and 25, 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
