The procedure for terminating labor contracts with foreign language teachers who do not have the required language certificate in Uzbekistan is being established.
This is provided for in the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Decisions of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan." This document was published for public discussion on July 28.
According to the draft, it is planned to introduce an additional norm to Government Resolution No. 312 of May 19, 2021, "On Measures for Effective Organization of Popularizing the Study of Foreign Languages."
In accordance with this, labor contracts with employees working as foreign language teachers in general secondary, secondary specialized, and vocational educational institutions who do not have the relevant required certificate may be terminated in the manner prescribed by law.
The discussion of the draft resolution will continue until August 12, 2026.
It is noted that the requirement for foreign language teachers to have a national or equivalent international certificate at the B2 level was initially set until the 2024-2025 academic year. However, based on appeals from educators and members of the public, this deadline has been extended several times.
By the relevant order of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the requirement to have at least a B2 level national or equivalent international certificate was included in the job qualification requirements for foreign language teachers.
Earlier, it was reported that the deadline for obtaining this certificate for foreign language teachers working in general education schools was extended until the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year.
