US President Donald Trump announced that he has called off planned strikes against Iran if a deal is reached with Tehran soon.
In a statement on the social network Truth Social, Trump wrote that he halted the attack "on the condition that the possibility of a quick deal remains." According to him, the deal should include eliminating Iran's nuclear threat and promptly opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The US president said the decision was made together with Israel. This statement came against the background of reports that the US was planning new and powerful strikes against Iran.
Trump emphasized that US military forces have been put on the highest level of readiness against Iran "since World War II." However, according to him, Iran and other countries in the Middle East asked to stop the attack to allow negotiations.
He said the parties have agreed on the key terms of the deal. The Iranian side has not yet officially responded to Trump's statement.
Earlier, the US government had called on Americans in the Middle East to be cautious and be ready to leave the region if the situation escalates. Officials warned that flights could be canceled, airspace closed, and travel disrupted.
