According to reports, the incident occurred near Miramar military air base. The pilot managed to eject from the aircraft using the ejection system in an emergency. He was taken to a medical facility, where doctors reported that his condition was stable and there was no threat to his life.
After the incident, a powerful fire broke out in the area where the plane crashed. Military personnel, fire and rescue services, and special equipment were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers carried out operations to extinguish the fire around the aircraft wreckage.
The F-35B — a modern fighter jet belonging to the F-35 family, with the capability of short takeoff and vertical landing — is considered one of the most advanced aircraft of its kind. One unit is estimated to cost approximately 109 million dollars.
According to the US Government Accountability Office, more than 630 F-35 aircraft in various modifications are in service in the country's Armed Forces. Additionally, the purchase of thousands more such fighters is planned in the future.
This incident was another in a series of accidents involving F-35 aircraft. Currently, experts have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fighter's crash.
