Central Asian states are preparing a work plan to expand the automatic water resources accounting system in the Syr Darya basin. By the end of September, a working group consisting of representatives of participating countries is expected to be formed.
This was agreed upon at the 94th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination, held on August 7 in the city of Turkistan, Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Water Resources reported this.
At the meeting, the limits for water withdrawal from the Amu Darya and Syr Darya basins for the 2026 vegetation period, as well as the operating mode of reservoirs, were discussed. According to the information, since April 1, about 3 billion cubic meters of water have entered the Shardara reservoir. Currently, the situation in the Syr Darya basin is assessed as stable.
Also, at the meeting of the joint working commission on water relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, a project to automate 10 hydro posts located on the territories of the two countries was discussed. The parties agreed to accelerate the attraction of grant funds for the implementation of the project.
