Iran's Supreme National Security Council has put forward a number of conditions to the US for opening the Strait of Hormuz. The Guardian reported this.
Iran is demanding that the US provide guarantees against military threats, withdraw its troops from the region, lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports, remove sanctions, and return frozen assets. Iran has also asked for compensation for military strikes.
Tehran has also demanded a halt to "aggression" against its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq.
Washington has not yet responded to these demands. According to The New York Times, the Donald Trump administration is unlikely to agree to Iran's conditions.
Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are holding separate negotiations on restoring the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important routes for transporting oil and gas in the world. Its closure could have a serious impact on the global energy market and oil prices.
