The son of former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, Argam Abramyan, has been detained for two months. He is suspected of ordering a murder in 2023. The Insider reported this.
Argam Abramyan is a former deputy and also a former mayor of the city of Artashat.
According to investigation data, Abramyan suspected that his wife had a personal relationship with S.V., a pastor of the religious organization "Christian Evangelical Faith." He also knew that his wife had been giving large sums of money to the pastor.
It is said that Abramyan, seeking revenge, ordered his guard G.H. to kill the pastor. On April 30, 2023, the pastor was shot dead near a residential building in Yerevan.
The alleged perpetrator of the murder had previously been charged with murder and illegal possession of weapons. In April 2024, his case was sent to court.
Argam Abramyan was detained on August 8 by officers of Armenia's National Security Service. His lawyer stated that the client does not admit guilt and that there is no evidence confirming his involvement in the crime.
Armenia's Ombudsman Anahit Manasyan, meanwhile, criticized the Investigative Committee for disclosing information about the personal and family life of the suspects.
For information, Argam Abramyan is married to the daughter of businessman and leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, Gagik Tsarukyan. Tsarukyan himself has also been in custody since July, accused of organizing fraud and laundering very large amounts of money.
The court transferred management of the cement and cognac factories belonging to Tsarukyan to the state. The "Prosperous Armenia" party, having gathered 3.9893 percent of the votes in the parliamentary elections held in June, failed to cross the 4 percent threshold set for entering parliament.
