On the island of Lilla Karlsö near Sweden's Gotland island, archaeologists identified a skeleton of a pregnant woman approximately 9,000 years old. Well-preserved fetal remains were also found in her uterus area. The Swedish national radio — SR reported this.
It is noted that the remains of the pregnant woman were identified during archaeological excavations carried out in the Suder-Vagnhus cave on Lilla Karlsö island.
Archaeologists found very well-preserved fetal remains in the area of the woman's uterus. Specialists estimated the age of the find at approximately 9,000 years.
According to archaeologist and project leader Alexander Rösen Sjöstrand, this find is considered one of the oldest and best-preserved fetal specimens known in the world.
Specialists are evaluating this find as a unique archaeological discovery on a global scale.
Currently, archaeological excavations in the area are continuing. Scientists have planned to determine the woman's origin and the characteristics of her burial ceremony.
