The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan commented on this news.
According to the publication, an unknown person put up for sale on the darknet a database of Kazakhstan's 15 million residents. The post said that this database covers almost three-quarters of the country's population.
It was reported that the seller claimed to have obtained the database through a hacker attack on the eGov system of the electronic government. A user with the pseudonym shymzz13 valued a file of 2.7 gigabytes at 0.5 bitcoins, i.e., about 32 thousand dollars.
It was stated that it contains 47 million rows of data consisting of passport information, phone numbers, email addresses, places of work, scanned copies of documents, and passwords.
Cybersecurity experts expressed concern that call centers in Ukraine could buy this database. However, the authenticity of the database and its origin from the eGov system have not yet been confirmed.
A Nur.kz correspondent contacted the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan. The ministry stated that it is aware of reports that citizens' personal data leaked and was placed on the darknet.
Currently, together with the relevant services, the published information is being technically checked. In particular, samples of the provided data are being analyzed and their possible source of origin is being determined.
At the same time, there is no confirmed information that the e-government information systems were hacked or that this database was obtained directly from the eGov system," the ministry's response said.
At the same time, the ministry noted that some of the disseminated data does not match the structure and format of data in the e-government system.
In particular, it was noted that in the eGov system, scanned copies of passports are not stored in the form mentioned in the report, and digital documents have a different format.
According to the ministry, the darknet user's statement that the database was obtained from the eGov system itself does not confirm that the e-government system was hacked.
The technical inspection is ongoing. It was announced that additional information will be provided based on its results.
The Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan recommended that citizens follow digital security rules. In particular, they were asked not to give SMS codes, passwords, and electronic digital signature data to third parties, not to click on suspicious links, and to use different passwords for different services.
Let us recall that in June 2025, reports also circulated that over 16 million personal data records of Kazakhstan citizens had leaked to the internet.
It should be noted that a few days ago, mass cyberattacks aimed at unauthorized access via the RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) service to computers and servers of government organizations and business entities in Uzbekistan were detected.
