Trump stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is blocked and that if the US wants, no ship can pass through it.
This statement came at a time when negotiations between the US and Iran were ending fruitlessly. The Iranian side, in turn, stated that the issue of opening the strait is solely within Tehran's competence.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. Nearly 20 percent of the world's oil supply is transported through this strategic waterway.
