As a result of a fire that occurred on August 15 in a multi-storey building under construction in Omsk, Russia, a total of 11 workers were injured. It was reported that two of them are citizens of Uzbekistan. The press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Omsk region reported this to RIA Novosti.
The fire occurred around 10:30 a.m. on August 15 in the Dravert quarters area in Omsk. Thick black smoke rising from the scene attracted the attention of those nearby.
Thirty rescuers and six pieces of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. As a result of the incident, 11 workers were taken to the hospital. Three of them were later released to their homes, and one died.
"Currently, seven victims are receiving medical care in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Three people have been discharged from the hospital," — stated in the report of the press service of the Investigative Committee.
All of the injured were workers of a contracting organization. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, two of them are citizens of Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk are in contact with law enforcement agencies and the city administration in Omsk in order to provide the necessary assistance to the injured citizens, as well as to establish all causes of the incident.
According to preliminary data, the fire was caused by the ignition of the thermal insulation material — insulation — during welding work.
The prosecutor's office of the Omsk region has launched an investigation into the incident.
