The Supreme Court denied information that the chairwoman of the Tomdi district court for criminal cases, Aziza Mirzaeva, died in a traffic accident while going to a meeting.
The traffic accident occurred around noon on August 15 on the Zarafshon—Tomdi road. A Cobalt car driven by Aziza Mirzaeva went off the road and overturned. The judge died at the scene as a result of severe bodily injuries.
Earlier, legal activist Abdurahmon Tashanov wrote that despite August 15 being a day off, the leadership of the Supreme Court held a meeting for the entire judicial system. According to him, heads of city and district courts were instructed to participate in the meeting from their offices via video conference.
The Supreme Court, in turn, stated that this information does not correspond to reality. It was noted that on August 15, no meeting was scheduled or held by the Supreme Court. In addition, no instruction was given requiring court chairpersons to come to their places of work on a day off.
"A legal assessment of the causes of the incident and other circumstances will be given by authorized bodies in the manner prescribed by law. It is inappropriate to disseminate assumptions about where and for what purpose the deceased was heading or about the causes of the incident as established facts before the investigation is completed," — the Supreme Court's statement says.
The Supreme Court called for not spreading unverified information and baseless assumptions.
