This project is aimed at making travel more convenient for passengers, especially foreign tourists, by directly connecting the airport and railway infrastructure. In the field of railway transport in Uzbekistan, the Urgench International Airport — Khiva railway network is noted as one of the major projects implemented.
Within the project, an 11-kilometer new railway line connecting Urgench International Airport and the railway station has been built. It includes a new station, a bridge, intersections with highways, and 25 water discharge structures.
The new route will create the opportunity to transport nearly 650,000 local and foreign tourists per year. The travel time between Urgench and Khiva will be reduced from 80 minutes to 40 minutes. About 30 new jobs have been created within the project.
Notably, this project aimed at directly connecting the airport to the railway is being implemented for the first time in Uzbekistan.
On the Urgench International Airport — Khiva route, a CR200J electric train manufactured in China is being put into operation. Consisting of six carriages, the train can carry about 400 passengers and travel at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.
The train carriages feature VIP, business, and economy class seats, free Wi-Fi, the ability to charge electronic devices, air conditioning, and heating systems. Necessary conditions have also been created for people with disabilities.
The head of state traveled to the city of Khiva on the new electric train.
In Khiva, the President also reviewed new trolleybuses that will be put into service on the route connecting Urgench International Airport and the Khiva railway station.
In July of this year, 10 trolleybuses brought from China were equipped with an autonomous movement system. They can cover distances of up to 100 kilometers without being connected to the electric grid.
Each trolleybus is designed for 87 passengers. Conveniences have been created for people with disabilities, the elderly, and passengers with children. USB and Type-C ports, as well as internal and external surveillance cameras, have also been installed.
The vehicles are equipped with safety systems such as driver condition monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic fire extinguishing.
The head of state emphasized that the harmonization of transport modes will create convenience for the population and tourists, reduce travel time, and increase the tourist attractiveness of Khorezm.
Instructions were given to officials to ensure safe and quality passenger service on the new transport vehicles.
