The Democratic Republic of Congo national team announced that it will not change its World Cup preparation plan, despite the 21-day quarantine requirement put forward by the United States due to the spread of the Ebola virus.
According to Reuters, representatives of the national team confirmed that the training schedule will remain as before. The team will also play the scheduled friendly matches. Matches will take place on June 3 in Liège (Belgium) against Denmark and on June 9 in Cadiz (Spain) against Chile.
The only change in the plan was the cancellation of a three-day trip to Kinshasa, where a ceremonial send-off event for the national team, planned for the first time before the World Cup, was expected to be held. This decision was made before the US warning.
The team management emphasized that none of the footballers in the squad were in the territory of the DRC during the peak of the Ebola outbreak. The entire team, led by head coach Sebastien Desabre, is mostly training in Europe. At the same time, it was reported that several officials arrived directly from the DRC to the training camp in Belgium in recent days.
