On August 6, at the next session of the Legislative Chamber, the Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction Behzod Musaev provided information on the employment placement of university graduates in 2024 here.
According to the Minister, the complete list of 214,000 graduates from the last academic year was obtained from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations and compared with the employment database. Of these, 88,000 (or 41 percent) were hired by companies and organizations based on contracts.
"126,000 of them (or 59 percent) have not yet found a job. We compared and analyzed the possibility of matching unemployed graduates with vacant positions according to their field of studies. It was discovered that there is a possibility to employ 95,000 graduates in 102,000 vacant positions. Currently, we are working on employing each graduate in August-September according to their district, city, or if they are looking for a job in the capital, in the capital," — he said.
Behzod Musaev mentioned that currently, 358,000 vacant positions are registered in the country, of which 112,000 require higher education.
Of the total number of vacant positions, 81,000 are in government bodies, and 277,000 are in the private sector. The most vacancies are observed in the following sectors:
- services — 96,000;
- education — 56,000;
- industry and manufacturing — 57,000;

In February 2023, the former Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovations Ibrahim Abdurahmonov spoke about the possibility of non-state universities, which have a high number of unemployed graduates, being recognized as institutions providing poor quality education and the potential termination of their operations. This statement caused criticism online, and the ministry responded to it.
While the number of unemployed was 1.3 million at the beginning of the year, another 2.4 million people are expected to enter the labour market this year. It is expected that 5 million people will be employed by the year 2024.
