Among the passengers who arrived from Cam Ranh, Vietnam, when one of the passengers' luggage was inspected in accordance with the established customs procedure, it was discovered that there were 12 birds not declared in the customs declaration and not mentioned during the verbal inquiry by customs officers, and which lacked the necessary permits was identified.
Regrettably, the condition of the yellow and white-necked parakeets, which were hidden among fruit boxes and transported without complying with the storage and transportation rules, is being assessed negatively by specialists. In particular, 3 of the birds have already perished.
Investigations regarding the situation are currently ongoing.
We remind that the importation and exportation of wild animals not listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan, their parts, as well as products of their vital activity, require a permit from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this case, applicants must provide documentation proving the legal purchase or capture of the animal.
Furthermore, a conclusion from the Veterinary and Livestock Development Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding whether the animals are healthy or afflicted with diseases is required.
The yellow and white-necked parakeets mainly inhabit South and East Asia and are considered a vulnerable species.
According to preliminary estimates, the total value of the birds exceeds 60 million UZS.
