The Beruni International Award by UNESCO–Uzbekistan aimed at supporting research and developments in the field of ethics in artificial intelligence has been established. Saida Mirziyoyeva announced this.

It is noted that this decision was unanimously adopted within the framework of the initiative put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the 220th session of the UNESCO Executive Board held in Paris on October 22, 2024.

The award is given every two years to substantial projects that serve to develop ethics, inclusiveness in the field of artificial intelligence, and to strengthen international scientific cooperation. Winners are selected by an independent international panel of judges and are awarded a cash prize, certificate, and medal as a symbol of recognition for their contribution to the world of science.

The first award ceremony will take place in November 2025, in the city of Samarkand, within the framework of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which signifies the importance of this initiative in strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the international community.
