Migrant children who do not know the Russian language will be banned from enrollment in schools in Russia. Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, mentioned that another bill regarding the change in migration policy is being prepared. This was reported by “Interfax” here.
We have analyzed the necessary steps in the field of law enforcement and focused on problematic issues that are waiting for a solution. Within the framework of this decision, we will send our proposals to the government regarding labor migration and families coming with migrants, said Volodin.
The project mandates testing migrant children for their legal status in Russia and their proficiency in the Russian language before admitting them to school. The draft decision is scheduled to be reviewed on November 20.
On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the development of an algorithm for working with foreign children who speak little or no Russian. He assigned the task of defining and reinforcing the levels of Russian language proficiency required.
In July, the head of “Rosobrnadzor” Anzor Muzaev proposed not to admit migrant children who do not know Russian to school. He said that if the families of foreign citizens move to Russia and plan to live here, their children need to learn Russian.
In June, the Head of the Human Rights Council Valery Fadeev said that “not a single child who does not know Russian should be enrolled in school.”
