The world is seeing an increase in antibiotic-resistant types of infections. This poses a serious threat to human life, health, and the epidemiological situation. This is reported by the Ministry of Health's Press Service.
The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in his statement, highlighted this global issue, noting that superbugs are causing the deaths of 1.3 million people around the planet each year.
The proliferation of drug-resistant bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites makes the treatment of many diseases more difficult or eliminates the possibility of treatment altogether. This may accelerate the emergence of superbugs.
The WHO chief stated that the political declaration on antimicrobial resistance, adopted by the UN General Assembly, serves as a roadmap for accomplishing the priority goals in combating this issue.
Governments need to intensify efforts, strengthen cooperation, and take measures.
A reminder: according to experts' calculations, by the year 2050, drug-resistant infections are expected to be responsible for the deaths of 39.1 million people, with an additional 169 million deaths due to related pathologies.
