Turkey will help the new Syrian government to organize a regular army of 300,000 personnel. Turkish military advisors and experts will participate in its formation. This was reported by the Turkiye newspaper.
“Our goal is to form an army of 300,000 people within a year or a year and a half, the difficult situation within the country and the threat from Israel make this a necessity,” said a representative of the new leadership of the Arab Republic, General Ahmad Usman.
According to his words, in the initial phase, a core of armed forces consisting of 70-80 thousand personnel will be formed, and their number will be increased to 150-200 thousand in the shortest possible time. “The army to be formed will include close to 40,000 participants from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, banned in the Russian Federation) in Idlib, 50,000 SNA soldiers (Syrian National Army supported by Turkey), as well as military personnel and intelligence officers not involved in the crimes of the regime [former president Bashar Assad]. Turkey's military support at this stage is of particular importance,” said Usman.
According to Turkiye, the Turkish military contingent will be deployed to five key points in Syria.
