The elected President of the USA, Donald Trump, said the severe forest fires in Los Angeles caused more devastation than an atomic bomb, and expressed concern that the real number of fatalities in the affected areas could be much higher than the current death toll. here.

In an interview with News Max cable news on Monday, Trump speculated a sharp increase in the death toll from the destructive forest fires in Los Angeles, as local government brings in dogs that can smell corpses to uncover ruins.

“I think the fire caused more damage than a nuclear strike. I have never seen anything like this situation. Many miles of land just burned down. Nothing survived”, Trump said in his interview.

The massive forest fires that started last week were caused by stormy winds carrying dry desert air. According to the medical authorities of Los Angeles County, at least 24 people have died.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called these fires the biggest natural disaster in the history of the USA. The fires have destroyed more than 10,000 buildings and left over 34,000 households without electricity. Furthermore, there are issues with water supply, complicating firefighting efforts. President Joe Biden has promised to provide full financial assistance to California for six months.

It is worth mentioning, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has uniquely assessed the material damage caused by the fires in California.

The damage from the fires in California is estimated at 150 billion dollars, which is almost equal to the volume of money "poured" by Washington into Kiev, according to the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the press conference dedicated to the results of Russian diplomacy in 2024.
