Reports have spread on social networks about an incident in Tashkent where a taxi driver allegedly drugged a customer with water, causing them to fall asleep, and registered a microloan of 12 million som in their name. The Press Service of the Capital's Department of Internal Affairs has clarified the situation.

It turns out that the woman who got into the taxi was already under the influence of alcohol prior to the ride. She voluntarily handed over her phone to the driver to show him the address via geolocation and then fell asleep. Contrary to what has been mentioned on social networks, the taxi driver did not drug the customer with water laced with narcotics.

The taxi driver and his accomplice took advantage of the sleeping customer and registered a microloan for 12 million som in her name through an app on her phone. They then transferred the money to their own card and withdrew it from an ATM.

As a result of rapid response actions carried out by the officers of the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs' Division for Combating Crimes in the Field of Information Technology, both individuals have been detained.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 169 of the Criminal Code (theft). The material damage inflicted on the victim has been compensated. The investigation is ongoing.
