Former Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan, Marat Beketaev, has been sentenced. This was announced by the official representative of the Anti-corruption Agency, Doniyor Bigadarov.
It is noted that the former Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan, Marat Beketaev, has been deprived of freedom for 9 years with confiscation of property. The criminal case against Beketaev was investigated in relation to fraud, theft of an especially large size and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activities.
“Since the investigation of this case was carried out under the “Confidential” category, it is not necessary to disclose all the materials and cases of the crime. Therefore, unfortunately, I cannot fully answer this question,” said Doniyor Bigadarov.
Marat Beketaev was arrested in October 2023. Last autumn, the Astana court reported the extension of his detention period. According to the Anti-corruption Service, the former minister “made annual contracts for services that were obviously unnecessary, supporting the interests of a company he owned, thereby causing extremely large damage to the state.” The criminal case was transferred to court on March 3, 2025.
Marat Beketaev worked as the Minister of Justice during 2016-2022, and from January 2022, he became an advisor to the Prime Minister. He was released from this position in December 2022, but this was only made public in February 2023.
