A year ago, the US raised import tariffs on Chinese goods. After Trump's decision, China immediately raised import tariffs on United States products as well.
Following that, Beijing responded to the new customs tariffs imposed by Trump.
"If war – is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, trade war, or any other kind of war, we are ready to fight to the end," said in a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Following this statement, the head of the Pentagon announced the US's readiness to start a war with China.
Pete Hegseth gave this statement in response to China's threats of being ready for any kind of war.
"Those who seek peace must be prepared for war. We live in a dangerous world, where there are states with an entirely different ideology that are growing stronger," stressed the United States Secretary of Defense during a broadcast on Fox News.
"If the US wants to prevent a war with China or other countries, it must be strong. President Trump understands very well that peace can only be ensured through strength," added the head of the Pentagon.
