The presidential aide reported that on April 9, on the second anniversary of the adoption of the law against domestic violence, Uzbekistan confirmed the introduction of a very important amendment to its leading legislation regarding the abolition of the "conciliation period" appointed by the courts for divorce.
"I consider this a big step towards protecting women from domestic violence and respecting their rights. If a person's dignity is not respected in the family and they face physical, psychological, or economic humiliation, it is impossible to compromise and reconcile there," Mirziyoyeva said.
The presidential assistant also noted that this change is important not only for women, but also for children living and being raised in such conditions.
"The large team that worked on the introduction of these amendments to the legislation is on your side. No matter how difficult the journey, choose peace for yourself and your children. And parents need to understand that it is a real disgrace for your daughter to be forced to endure violence, not to run away from violence and come home," Mirziyoyeva added.
