The court of Lipetsk city in Russia pronounced a sentence for six prisoners who managed to escape by digging a 30-meter tunnel from the colony in October 2024.

The escapees were found guilty under Article 313 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Escape from a place of confinement by a group of persons"), and were sentenced to terms ranging from 4.5 to 12.5 years of imprisonment.

According to the court's decision, the prisoners serving sentences in the general regime colony No. 2 in Lipetsk, used pipes, shovels, and cutting disc segments to dig the tunnel over two months. The tunnel, extending over 30 meters, passed under the colony's fence. On October 25, 2024, the prisoners – five Uzbeks and one Tajik – escaped through the tunnel.

Five prisoners were immediately captured, while the sixth one was found in the Tambov region on November 6th.
