On May 20, 2025, at an economic forum held in Qatar, Elon Musk announced his intention to significantly reduce future political spending. According to him, "I’ve done enough," he emphasized. This decision marks a major turning point in his political activity, especially after his substantial donations to Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

During the 2024 election cycle, Musk spent more than $290 million to support Trump’s re-election. These funds were primarily channeled through the America PAC, which was established by Musk to mobilize voters and support Trump’s campaign. Additionally, Musk allocated more than $20 million for the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, making it one of the most expensive judicial elections in U.S. history.

His political involvement was not limited to financial contributions. Following Trump’s re-election, Musk was appointed head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency — DOGE. This department is aimed at reducing federal spending and cutting bureaucracy, and through it, Musk has played an active role in government reform. Under this program, thousands of federal employees were laid off, and Musk’s team was granted access to government data.

Musk’s decision to cut political spending reflects a desire to focus more on Tesla and his other companies. He stated that future political donations will only be made for "justifiable reasons." This decision was positively received by investors and the public, as it signals a renewed focus on the core operations of his businesses.

At the same time, Musk’s influence on the political scene may decline, which could affect the Republican Party and Trump’s future campaign financing strategies.

It is worth noting that recently, Trump has been mentioning Musk less frequently. Joint briefings between the two have also become rare. According to some analysts, due to a decline in Musk’s reputation, he may no longer be considered a desirable figure for Trump.
