Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the country would soon recognize the independence of the State of Palestine. This was reported by the Times of Malta publication.
It is noted that the official statement will be announced at an international conference organized by Saudi Arabia and France with the support of the UN on June 20, 2025.
According to the publication, several other countries, in addition to Malta, are expected to officially declare their recognition of Palestine at this event.
According to Axios, France is also preparing to recognize the independent Palestinian state this month. President Emmanuel Macron mentioned this plan in an interview in April 2025.
Recall that in 2024, the independence of Palestine was officially recognized by Norway, Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, and Armenia.
