The government of North Korea arrested three officials as responsible for the incident during the launching of a military ship under arrest.
According to the Central Telegraph Agency of DPRK, the arrested are the chief engineer of the Chongjin northern shipyard (a place where ships are built and repaired), the construction manager, and the administrative manager. It is said that they "are to answer for the accident".
We remind you that on May 21, 2025, a ceremony for launching a new military ship (destroyer) weighing five thousand tons was held. The event was attended by the leader of DPRK, Kim Jong Un. During the launching, the ship lost its balance, part of it fell onto land, causing serious damage to the hull and bottom.
Kim Jong Un assessed the incident as a crime due to "carelessness, irresponsibility, and ignorance," stating that the culprits should be punished.
