According to the New York Post, the new coronavirus strain "NB.1.81," first identified in China in March 2024, is rapidly spreading worldwide.

The "NB.1.81" strain of the virus has already spread to Hong Kong and other regions of Asia, and now it has reached the USA, including New York.

In China, hospitalization cases have doubled, and deaths among elderly people have been recorded.

In Hong Kong, severe cases (81) and deaths (30), especially among elderly patients, are also recorded.

Experts warn that the "NB.1.81" virus is spreading faster than other strains. This variant begins with symptoms such as cough, sore throat, fever, and fatigue. The publication notes that the Hong Kong government, while underestimating the risk of this strain, assessed it as not more dangerous than previous variants.

In Russia, the NB.1.81 virus is not currently considered very dangerous. According to Vladimir Chulanov, the chief infectious disease specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, there is currently no need to take additional measures regarding this variant.

According to him, the severity and symptoms of the disease do not differ from other variants circulating among people. He also reported that two cases of this strain were identified in St. Petersburg in April, and both patients recovered soon.
