American billionaire, owner of Tesla and SpaceX companies, Elon Musk announced plans to launch a driverless taxi service (robotaxi) on June 22. He made it known on the X social network he said.

According to Musk, the first test rides in driverless electric vehicles could begin in Austin, Texas.

"We approach safety issues with utmost caution, so the launch date may change," he said.

According to American media, the launch of the new service is arousing great interest among investors, Wall Street analysts, and car enthusiasts.

Last month, Musk mentioned in an interview with CNBC that initially, robotaxis would be remotely controlled and could operate only in strictly limited areas considered to be the safest.
