Pope Leo XIV turned out to be related to Madonna and Angelina Jolie it appeared. This is reported by The New York Times.
As reported, the newspaper's journalist collaborated with American Ancestors and the Cuban genealogy club experts to study the genealogical tree of the first American pontiff.
Genealogists studied the ancestors of Robert Prevost (Leo XIV) up to his 12th great-grandparent, who was born at the beginning of the 16th century. It turned out that the roots of Leo XIV's ancestors reach France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Cuba, Haiti, and Guadeloupe.
"Among his ancestors, 17 were black, 12 were slaveholders, and the rest were enslaved," — wrote Spiegel Online based on the information collected by colleagues.
Pope Leo is a distant relative of the former Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, former U.S. Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton, actress Angelina Jolie, pop star Justin Bieber, writer Jack Kerouac, and music legend Madonna through an ancestor of his mother's side, born around the 1590s.
