A large-scale corruption scheme was exposed in Andijan region with the involvement of government officials. Those who were supposed to know and uphold the law were themselves leading its violation.
The situation in Khanabad city
The deputy mayor of the city conspired with the head of an LLC engaged in alcoholic beverage trade. They allocated 4 hectares of land through a separate auction under the pretext of establishing a production facility for mattresses, corrugated sheets, and children's diapers for a local entrepreneur. The official was caught red-handed while taking a $20,000 bribe for formalizing the land under the entrepreneur's name.
The situation in Andijan district
The former deputy district governor, the head of the city statistics department, and two other individuals demanded $600,000 from an entrepreneur, promising to allocate 6 hectares of land from the "Silk Road" free economic zone. They were apprehended after receiving $150,000 in advance.
A former first deputy head of the regional department of the Competition Committee was also implicated in this case. It was revealed that he had received $11,000 for "assisting" in this matter.
The situation in Tashkent region
In Ohangaron, the head of the district pension fund department was caught red-handed while taking a $1,500 bribe for "restoring" a citizen's lost work record book to process their pension. This individual had previously faced criminal charges under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (abuse of official authority).
Currently, criminal cases have been initiated regarding all these incidents. Detention as a preventive measure has been applied to all suspects. Investigative actions are ongoing.
