French Minister of Culture and candidate for Mayor of Paris Rachida Dati is accused of corruption and abuse of power and will be brought to court. This was reported by Zamon.uz here.
Paris judges have decided to initiate criminal proceedings against Dati and former head of the Renault-Nissan alliance Carlos Ghosn. According to the charges, Dati received 900,000 euros for lobbying for the company while serving as a member of the European Parliament between 2009 and 2011.
Although this amount was paid for "legal services" by a subsidiary company in the Netherlands between 2010 and 2012, investigators believe she did not perform any actual work. During this period, Dati was active in the European Parliament.
Carlos Ghosn is also expected to face trial. He fled custody in Japan and currently resides in Lebanon. Both individuals deny the allegations.
The preliminary court hearing is scheduled for September 29. Dati has stated she will continue her government duties. A government source clarified that the judicial process does not yet constitute a verdict, allowing her to remain in her position.
