Following the U.S. imposition of a 50% tariff on exports from Brazil, President Lula held a phone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The parties discussed strengthening trade relations, multilateral cooperation, and preparations for the COP30 climate summit.

The recent phone call between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Chinese President Xi Jinping was conducted to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries and jointly respond to tensions in global trade. The conversation took place after the unexpected 50% tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Brazilian exports, marking the conclusion of pre-planned communication between Beijing and Brazilian officials.

The meeting addressed the war in Ukraine, the promotion of a multilateral approach within BRICS and G20, as well as preparations for the COP30 climate summit to be held in Brazil in November. Xi Jinping confirmed China's participation in COP30 with a high-level delegation.

Additionally, the two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in healthcare, energy, the digital economy, and satellite technology. Lula has also intensified contacts with Indian and Russian leaders to coordinate a unified response against the U.S.'s new tariff policy within the BRICS framework.

China has already openly supported Brazil, condemning "unjustified external interference" and "the use of tariffs as a tool of political pressure." Experts assess this dialogue as a crucial step in maintaining stable economic ties between China and Brazil and transforming BRICS into a key player in global economic balance.
