Amendments have been introduced to the legislation regulating the procedure for temporarily restricting the right to exit.
According to the new rules, if there are grounds to believe that a person may leave the country and evade judicial proceedings without valid reasons, the court may temporarily restrict their right to exit—even if they are not under arrest.
The prosecutor, investigator, or interrogator issues a decision to file a motion for temporarily restricting the right to exit Uzbekistan, stating the grounds for applying this coercive measure.
The court must review the motion in a closed session no later than 8 hours after its receipt.
After reviewing the case, the court issues a ruling either temporarily restricting the right to exit the country or rejecting the application.
A complaint or protest may be filed within 48 hours after the decision is issued.
The law entered into force on the day of its official publication.
