Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns American director Woody Allen's participation (even remotely) in the Moscow International Film Festival.

"By participating in an event that has gathered supporters of Putin, Allen is turning a blind eye to Russia's atrocities that have been ongoing in Ukraine for 11 years," an official statement says.

According to MFA officials, this participation is an insult to the memory of Ukrainian actors and filmmakers who have been killed or wounded by the Russian army.

As emphasized by Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa, "culture cannot be a means to whitewash crimes."

Woody Allen has not yet commented on this criticism.
