North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited China this week with his daughter, Ju Ae. This was his first public appearance abroad, and according to observers, this situation could be part of a campaign to introduce her as a potential successor.
According to South Korean intelligence, the approximately 13-year-old Ju Ae took her first step into the diplomatic arena at an event held at the Russian embassy in May. Now, she has appeared in Beijing behind her father at a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Analysts believe that through this, Kim Jong Un is teaching his daughter about foreign protocol and the culture of interaction. According to Michael Madden, an expert at the Stimson Center, Ju Ae is gaining diplomatic experience and preparing to play an important role in the country's elite in the future.
However, experts emphasize that while she has not yet been officially declared Kim Jong Un's definite successor, such visits strengthen her position on the international stage.
