Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has proposed the introduction of the death penalty in the country for some serious crimes. According to him, this measure could be applied in cases of brutal violence and rape committed against women and children.
The head of state has instructed the head of the legal administration, Murat Ukushev, to develop a draft law based on this proposal.
It should be noted that the death penalty has not been in effect in Kyrgyzstan since 2007 — the country had officially abolished it. Japarov's new proposal is expected to be debated by the public and human rights organizations.
