A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred late last night in Turkey's  Balıkesir province. According to information from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 6 kilometers.

The earthquake was also felt in Istanbul, Izmir, and surrounding provinces. Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya visited the site of the incident and met with residents. According to him, as a result of the earthquake, 3 buildings and 1 shop collapsed, but no one died.

Yerlikaya also reported that a total of 504 calls were made to the 112 emergency service, 25 of which were related to building damage.

The Governor of Balıkesir, İsmail Ustaoğlu, stated that 22 people applied to hospitals, most of whom had jumped in panic or sustained minor injuries.

According to AFAD, several aftershocks were also recorded during the night, the strongest of which was a 4.3 magnitude.

In Balıkesir province, educational activities have been suspended for one day today as a safety measure.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement via social media, saying, "I express my condolences to all our citizens affected by the earthquake; all services are actively working on the ground."
