According to the Tashkent city administration, the sprinkling of water on road surfaces and the moistening of green areas are achieving the settling of fine dust particles in the air to the ground. This method is a practice used in major cities during periods of high pollution.
Experts say that when roads are moistened, PM2.5 and PM10 particles combine with water and their re-suspension into the air decreases. Secondary dusting caused by vehicle traffic is also significantly reduced—according to international research, this indicator accounts for 25–40% of urban PM emissions.
Furthermore, sprinkling water slightly lowers the temperature and reduces the time dust remains suspended in the air. According to the administration's information, these measures are part of a complex of works, including raids in greenhouses, installation of filters in boiler houses, and enhanced environmental control, which are also being implemented.
