In the central match of the UEFA Champions League Matchday 5, Arsenal defeated Bayern Munich 3:1 at home. The strong play of Arteta's team caused Bayern's first defeat in the tournament.
The first half-hour of the match was rich in goals for the spectators: In the 22nd minute, Jurriën Timber headed Bukayo Saka's cross from a corner into the goal, opening the score. 10 minutes later, Leon Goretzka converted Serge Gnabry's pass to equalize the score.
The changes made by Arteta in the second half paid off. In the 69th minute, Noni Madueke put his team ahead again, and in the 77th minute, Gabriel Martinelli finished a quick counter-attack with a goal, securing the victory.
With this result, Arsenal became the absolute leader in the group with 15 points after five matches. Bayern dropped to third place. In the next matchday, the Munich team will host Sporting, while Arsenal will travel to face Club Brugge.
