At a meeting held on the occasion of Agricultural Workers' Day, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to sharply increase the production of meat and dairy products in the country.
By 2026, 100,000 heads of cattle and 200,000 heads of sheep and goats will be imported from abroad. Farmers specializing in cotton and grain will be permitted to build lightweight livestock structures on areas of up to 20 hectares within their own land. The subsidy period for imported pedigree cattle and one-day-old chicks will be extended for another five years.
For the development of livestock farming, $157 million will be allocated from the resources of the World Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Additionally, $150 million will be attracted from JICA and $60 million from the Asian Development Bank. Using these funds, a thousand projects worth 5 trillion soums will be launched in 2026.
Based on French experience, it is planned to organize 340 small meat and dairy livestock farms with 50–60 heads each in 167 districts.
On December 8, the next batch of Simmental and Holstein breed cows from Germany and Austria was delivered to Tashkent by an Air Atlanta Icelandic Boeing 747-400 cargo flight.
