On December 11, 2025, Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy Jorabek Mirzamahmudov reported to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on the work carried out in the energy system.
After the minister's report, deputies addressed him with a question about whether the power grids are ready for the winter season.
"Currently, the grids are not fully ready. The main transmission grids come first. Right now, in 2025 itself, 2 trillion soums are being allocated for distribution grids. But we have not paid long-term attention to the main transmission grids. Because it was assumed, similar to generation, that they were sufficient. Our President gave a special instruction, and a separate program was developed for the development of main transmission grids. 5,000 kilometers of new grids will be built," said Jorabek Mirzamahmudov.
According to him, these are lines with the highest voltage of 220-500 kV.
At the end of October 2025, the Minister of Energy had stated that Uzbekistan has full electricity production capacity and no restrictions are expected in winter. Even then, he emphasized that the main problems are related to the aging of power grids that have been in service for over 40 years.
