At least seven people were killed in an explosion at a mosque located in the city of Maiduguri in northeastern Nigeria. BBC reported this.

According to information, the incident occurred on December 24 at a mosque in the Gamboru market area before the evening prayer. The mosque was full of people at the time of the explosion. Some witnesses say the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.

Local police are assessing this event as a possible terrorist attack. So far, no armed group has claimed responsibility. The number of injured is not clear; there could be dozens of people.

Maiduguri is the capital of Borno State and is considered an area linked to the activities of groups associated with Boko Haram and ISIS.
