Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called anti-government protesters "saboteurs" who are appealing to the US president.
Iran also sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council, accusing the US of turning Iran's protest rallies into "acts of violence, incitement, and widespread vandalism." Trump said Iran is facing a "big problem."
The protest rallies that began on the 13th have encompassed the economy and turned into the largest protests in years - leading to calls to end the Islamic Republic and some calls to restore it.
According to human rights groups, at least 48 protesters and 14 security personnel have been killed.
"We hit them hard where it hurts," Trump said at the White House on Friday, adding that his administration is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and that any US involvement would not represent "the morals of the land."
"I think people are taking over some cities that no one thought possible a few weeks ago," he said.
