In Uzbekistan, it may be permitted to use the father's name as the child's surname. The relevant draft law was approved in the first reading at a session of the Legislative Chamber.

According to the draft, an addition will be made to Article 69 of the Family Code, allowing a child's surname to be determined based on the surname of the parents, or, along with the first name of the grandfather on the father's or mother's side, also on the basis of the father's first name.

According to Deputy Minister of Justice Nomon Muhammadiev, the restrictions in the current procedure are causing different interpretations of legal norms and objections from citizens. The new draft law, however, is aimed at creating additional conveniences for citizens, taking into account national traditions.
