Approximately 1,500 members belonging to the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) terrorist group have escaped from a prison located in the city of Al-Shaddadah, Syria. This was reported by the Rudaw publication.
According to the publication's information, the prisoners may have been released by structures linked to the Syrian government. The source emphasized that the escaped individuals have joined various armed groups.
While the Syrian Ministry of Interior confirmed the incident, according to official data, it stated that approximately 120 prisoners had escaped from the prison. The Ministry of Defense blamed the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for releasing the prisoners and warned the group's leadership about rash actions that could lead to such consequences.
According to Reuters agency, following the incident, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that the army and special units had been deployed to the city of Al-Shaddadah. According to officials, security forces have captured 81 individuals, and operations to search for and arrest the remaining prisoners are ongoing.
