In the match held at the "Bay Arena" in San Francisco, Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to a penalty converted by Breel Embolo. Qatar, however, avoided defeat with a goal scored by Boualem Houkhi in added time.

It was noted that this penalty was the first 11-meter spot kick awarded at the current World Cup.

In the other match of the group, the national teams of Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina also drew 1:1. Thus, all teams in the group have one point each.

In the next round, Switzerland will face Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Qatar will compete against Canada.

The World Cup, hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, will conclude on July 19. For the first time in the tournament's history, 48 national teams are participating.
