The court verdict has been read in the case of a road traffic accident that caused the death of three people in the Navoi region. Darakchi.uz has reviewed the court documents.
According to reports, on the morning of January 5 of this year, a bus traveling on the "Zarafshan – Navoi" route was involved in a road traffic accident between kilometers 167–168 of the A-379 "Navoi – Uchquduq" highway. The bus, driven by Kh.Sh., born in 1986, veered off the road and overturned.
As a result, three passengers, including one minor, died at the scene. Another 21 passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
In court, the driver pleaded guilty, stating that the accident occurred due to his distraction while drinking water.
According to his testimony, while driving the bus at approximately 70 kilometers per hour, he bent down to look for the cap of his water bottle. At that moment, he inadvertently turned the steering wheel to the right. Although he then turned the steering wheel to the left to prevent the vehicle from leaving the road, he could not regain control, and the bus overturned.
By the verdict of the Tomdi District Court on June 11, the driver was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 266, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code.
The court sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment, with a deprivation of the right to operate all types of vehicles for a period of three years. The sentence is to be served in a penal colony.
Additionally, according to the court decision, material damages in the amount of 147 million soums are to be recovered from the driver in favor of the limited liability company that owned the bus.
